Many Americans have schedules that are too full and stay at work too late to be able to watch many of their favorite sports teams play in real time. Baseball games can start as early as 10 AM if you’re a Seattle Mariner’s fan and they are on the road playing the Yankees in the Bronx.  Or even worse, if you’re a soccer fan and Liverpool is playing Barcelona in the middle of the night! But this day in age, sports fans need not worry about missing one swing of the bat, nor one swoosh of the ball hitting the back of the soccer net.  Thanks to trusty DVRs and satellite TV, Americans can enjoy watching their favorite sports teams whenever they please.

After a long day at the office, it can be very rewarding to come home to your DVR and find several sports games from the past week recorded and ready to watch at your leisure.  Even if the score and brief play by play was on the cover of the morning newspaper, the relaxation and satisfaction of watching your favorite team play can never be equaled. No newspaper article can properly capture the intensity and the emotion that are on display on the screen during a sporting event.

The image of oneself reclining on the couch, legs up on the footstool, grasping the remote to the high definition television directly in front of you can be enough to pull through the last few hours at the office after an already long day.  Also, for those who closely follow a certain player, the ability to speed through commercials and to focus on the particular player or players is an added bonus that the DVR can provide.  Or even if you’re not into one player in particular, the ability to speed through commercials can be satisfying in itself.

The DVR allows you to go back and watch the highlights of the games you missed while at work, picking up the kids from school, grocery shopping or whatever was occupying your time instead of reading about them in the newspaper or waiting for the brief recap on the local news.  To watch a full game would take hours, and if one doesn’t have hours to spend between work and bedtime watching sports on TV, then the ability to watch the later half of a basketball game, for instance, is a great convenience. And what’s more, you can quickly skim through several games in an hour or two and only watch exactly what you want!

Obviously watching a sports game in real time in HD is more exciting and suspenseful than re-watching the event hours or even days later, but with Americans busy schedules, long hours at the office and endless errands and tasks that seem to always pop-up, sometimes that luxury can not be realized. Thus having a DVR hooked up to the TV in the house makes the in-home sports watching experience much better for the American sports fan.
