Monday, May 24, 2010 marked the end of an 8 season run of 24, a TV show that dives into the world of Jack Bauer, CTU super agent who takes down terrorists throughout the course of 24 hours. The past seasons touched upon every terrorism subject available, from biological weapons to nuclear. This season touched upon morality and committing unethical deeds «for the greater good.» I have to admit, I was sad to hear this would most likely be the final season of such a great show. Nearly everyone who I’ve introduced 24 to was addicted. I was no different.

To recap on this season, the United States was on the verge of signing an important peace treaty involving the IRK and Russia which would bring peace, otherwise unknown, to the region. The President of the IRK, President Hassan has worked hard with the US President, Allison Taylor, to bring this treaty to light. Unfortunately, not everyone viewed this peace treaty the same. Extremists within the IRK sought to end this treaty from getting signed. Eventually, they succeed in assassinating President Hassan and the peace treaty with it.

The drama seemed to have ended there, until it was revealed that the Russian government was involved in aiding the extremists in the IRK to carry out this sophisticated attack and assassination of President Hassan. Renee Walker, who was the love of Jack Bauer, was later killed as she believed to have recognized a Russian agent at the scene of Hassan’s death. It was then that Jack Bauer sought to bring vengence, or justice as he views it, to everyone involved in the day’s ordeals.

Before this season, I’ve always thought about what other subjects of terrorism could 24 possibly touch upon as they seem to have covered it all. Turns out, I was wrong and couldn’t have been more thrilled. There are endless twists and situations that could occur to keep the audience entertained and on their toes. I truly hope there will be a 9th season of 24. I found it clever of the writers to keep the ending «open» in the event that they do want to continue Jack Bauer’s adventures. Throughout the season, Jack made it clear that he was on a suicide mission, to kill everyone responsible and disregarding whatever happens to him at the end. However, it is good to know the ending was left open — Jack lives, though forced to escape the country, but he is and will be alive.

I applaud the writers, cast, and everyone involved in the creation of such a fantastic show that is 24. I have sat through 8 seasons of nonstop excitement and entertainment. Thank you and what is that I hear about a 24 movie?
